The beautiful beach of Bay MacNeil lies 3 miles from the village and has wonderful views of Ardnamurchan Point, the Small Isles and beyond to Skye.
To get there, take the road to the lighthouse and park at the green ‘layby’ just past Grigadale where there is a footpath sign to Bay MacNeil and Portuairk. Head through the metal gate and along a grassy track through rough pasture and heath following the way marker posts. The path passes through machair vegetation with low-growing dwarf willow (Salix herbacea), yellow flag iris (Iris pseudacorus) and bog myrtle (Myrica gale) in the wetter areas. In spring and summer, the dunes are a riot of colour with harebells, orchids and vetches. It is approximately a half a mile walk to the bay and when you reach the track the path goes right. You can walk down onto the white sandy beaches or continue on the footpath to the tiny village of Portuairk
