Tobermory, the main town on Mull is a short ferry ride from Kilchoan and makes for a pleasant day trip. It was built as a fishing port in the late 18th century and is a picture postcard of a place with brightly painted houses along the main street to the pier and the high woodland fringed hills surrounding the bay. The town has a good variety of shops, places to eat as well as being the administrative centre for the island.

Tobermory became more widely known as it became the setting for the children’s television programme Balamory – now being seen by new audiences in Australia.
